Your Auto Repair Shop in Austin Warns of Bad Habits that Damage Cars

posted on

It really is a surprise that so many people abuse their cars after taking so much time researching them and spending so much money buying one. Of course, they may not even realize they are damaging their car. You see, there are driving habits that can cause damage to your car. These bad driving habits rob you of fuel efficiency, accelerate the need for maintenance and in some case, these bad habits can cause your car to simply fail.

When bad things happen to your car, you want to get to the bottom of what happened so you can pin the blame on somebody. Unfortunately, sometimes the blame can be pinned in the fool behind the wheel.

Groovy Automotive, your auto repair service in Austin, offer up ways in which you are damaging your car.

Driving with a Low Fuel Level

Many people wait until their gas gauge reaches a certain level and then they pull into a gas station and fuel up. They might fill up when their tank hits a quarter or an eighth. But some people wait until their tank is very low on fuel, like when they are driving on fumes before they decide to fill up.

If you are doing this consistently, you could be ruining your fuel system. When your car has to draw fuel from the bottom of the gas tank, it pulls into the engine all of the sediment that settles to the bottom of the tank. This will clog your fuel filter and can even slip past into your engine where it can cause serious damage.

So stop doing that.

Sudden Braking and Acceleration

You like to show how quick your car is so you scream away across the street when the light turns green. You are also the type who enjoys racing to the stop sign and slamming on your brakes at the last possible second.

If you do this, not only are you a tool, but you are also damaging the components of your car, making them wear out sooner, and you are using way more fuel than necessary.

So stop doing that.

Engine Gunner

There are those who, for some reason. enjoy sitting at red lights gunning their engine. Not only is this habit annoying to everybody around you, it wastes fuel and puts unnecessary wear on your engine.

So stop doing that.

Riding the Brakes

We imagine that you have been on the freeway behind a car with their brake lights on for miles at a time. This is what people refer to as “riding the brake.” And while it might make them feel safer having their foot on the brake pedal, they are really setting themselves up for sudden brake failure.

So don't do that.

Riding the Clutch

We are willing to bet that you know somebody who is afraid to take their foot off of the clutch lest they forget to engage it when they come to a stop. If you guess that this habit wears down the clutch plate prematurely, come and collect your prize.

So don’t do that.
